Tema, Ghana’s prominent Manufacturing and Associated Shipping hub recently received a big boost with the rollout
of fiber optic infrastructure into the area, by MainOne, West Africa’s leading communications Services Company.
Through the latest metropolitan fiber optic build into the Tema, the company intends to provide direct fiber
connectivity solutions to key customers in the region, including Surfline Communications and Blu Telecoms Data
Centers. This rollout aims to ensure that areas of Tema currently without access to excellent broadband service can
benefit from improved service levels and uptime. In subsequent phases, the company plans to further extend and
improve its metropolitan fiber optic coverage within other major corporate business district in Accra.
Speaking on the impact MainOne’s broadband solutions would have on Tema in the greater Ghana region, the
company’s Business Executive for West Africa, Kazeem Oladepo, noted that the company’s objective for the build is
to guarantee optimum service levels for broadband connectivity within the region, and reiterate its commitment to
the future growth plans of its customers. While stressing the Company’s commitment to improving its network reach
to provide resilience to its customers, Oladepo explained that the company’s objective for the Tema build is to set-up
a Point of Presence where large enterprise and corporate clients can subscribe to wholesale connectivity solutions to
address the opportunities prevalent in the harbor hub of Ghana.
In his comments “Our vision for a connected West Africa is to expedite the penetration of reliable and affordable
broadband internet services, aimed at increased economic development and business growth. We are investing
significantly in distributing more of our capacity within the major business district of Ghana where demand from our
customers for such services is growing, and we plan to double this investment and extend our reliable fiber
connectivity across other areas in Ghana. This expansion is part of our strategy and commitment towards assisting
Ghanaian businesses in their stride for growth, as well as accelerating the rate of broadband penetration across
Ghana’’.
Speaking on the completion of MainOne’s fiber build in Tema and to its facility, Dr. Yaw Akoto, the Chief Executive
Officer of Surfline Communications lauded the company as truly committed to the growth plans of its customers. He
stressed that the availability of direct fiber infrastructure in Tema would enhance the performance of Manufacturing,
Shipping and other enterprise concerns in the area.
Through its $300m investments in West Africa, MainOne aims to deepen internet access across the region, and is
poised to double this investment over the next ten years to expand its data centers and fiber infrastructure in
Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Nigeria.
