OUR COVERAGE

To enable the digital economy, Africa needs high-performance bandwidth across the continent.

We have raised Africa’s profile as a continent of untapped potential, obtaining the pioneer license to deploy a privately owned submarine cable system in West Africa.

In February 2008, MainOne began the construction and laying of its state-of-the-art undersea cable system. This would be the first privately wholly owned subsea cable along the West African coastline.

MainOne’s current cable system is a 7,500km submarine cable with landing stations in Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, and Portugal. The submarine cable currently delivers high speed bandwidth of 1.92 Tbps and a design capacity of 10Tbps. By extension, MainOne is able to also interconnect with SEACOM and other international cables from Seixal in Portugal via Tata Communications’ European and Transatlantic networks and interconnection in Telehouse, London, and Equinix, Lisbon.

With coverage across over 10 countries in West Africa, MainOne has built a dynamic and extensive network footprint across the region which have become unique points of differentiation for carriers and businesses around the globe.

Our customers benefit from the combination of a strong and growing fibre footprint and carefully negotiated strategic partnerships with local providers, resulting in end-to-end global solutions. Through our last mile and metro connectivity, MainOne enables customers extend their networks to locations and metros in West Africa via Equinix Fabric extension.

Following its acquisition by Equinix in 2022, MainOne customers now have unparalleled access to global and regional markets, leveraging Platform Equinix. Equinix’s extensive network of 260+ data centers, in 71 metros across 33 countries, as well as Equinix Fabric platform provides businesses with access to connect to a vast ecosystem of potential partners and customers, enabling them to expand their reach and seize new opportunities.
